Dubai sunset or sunrise by Hassan Pasha

I wasn’t sure what to title this post — my first of the new year, new decade — but I imagine that since I’ve been away from posting fresh content on my blog for a solid month now, some of you may have thought me gone for good. Well, depending on your preference, you will be happy (or sad) to learn that the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

I’m not only back behind the keyboard, ready to head into 2020 with enthusiastic aplomb, I’m also here to rise like a phoenix and pursue a new path. Yes, I know it’s cliché. “New Year, New Me” and all that, but I assure you the analogy is apt. In mythology, the phoenix represents renewal and rebirth. It is a creature who cannot truly die, as it continues to regenerate into an avian vision of red, yellow and purple brilliance from its own ashes.

And in 2020, I’m donning the coat and courage of that vibrant symbol. Allow me to explain.

The past 3 months have been unusually arduous for me. A lot of plate spinning. A lot of late nights and early mornings. A lot of everything. Now, don’t get me wrong. Between the business trips, the organizing of one exhibition closing and a seasonal sale beginning, and the unending deadlines for a monthly magazine, I still managed to squeeze in some fun and relaxation. Trust me. If I hadn’t, I think I might’ve truly become unglued.

But the last quarter of 2019 was tough. All of 2019 was tough. And without going into too many details, all of the 2010s was tough too. However, I believe the time to lament and nurse my wounds has passed. And all signs point to: “This is it! Karma has been paid. Now it’s time to ascend.”

Yet, in order to reach the heights of where I wish to go, I had to cut loose some weight that kept me down. What does that mean?

As of January 1st, I am now focusing more on my business, Incandescere, taking on projects that involve more writing — copywriting, content writing, feature writing, blogging, etc. — than editing. I’ve walked away from what may be my last position as a staff member of a printed publication, and I’m kicking off a transition in the month of January that will lead to a bigger, brighter and more authentic career using my skills with the written word to create more than annotate.

Incandescent Me image - 1-5-2020Have no fear. I’m still an editor. As I’ve always said, editing makes me a better writer, and writing makes me a better editor. But even in these tumultuous times, my need to craft a story, share a vision, and promote a mission demanded to move to the forefront of my professional life, and Incandescere is now taking on new clients, partnerships and projects.

Yes, I will prioritize arts and culture-related opportunities, but I’m sure my professional experience in writing about business development, nonprofit causes, and holistic wellness will continue to grow. And should any such projects combine two or more of those areas, I’ll be ready to go.

So dear readers, if you or someone you know are in need of a copywriter, content writer, blogger or freelance journalist, and my background and experience seems to fit your style, your project or your vision, please don’t hesitate to contact me and let’s have a chat.

I have big plans for The Year of the Rat, and with the January 10th lunar eclipse kicking off what is sure to be an eventful year for us all, I ask that you join me is my ascent and welcome in a new era.
