Why This Is Awesome: You may not have noticed, but I don’t take a lot of selfies. It’s one of the reasons I resisted Instagram for so long. As someone who has never been very photogenic, I tend to shy away from the camera because even though I’m a pretty tough cookie, I’m not a glutton for punishment.
That’s why when I make an exception and share a selfie — painstakingly curated after about 30 tries, of course — it has to be for a good reason.
Well, commemorating my last day in Paris earlier this year seemed like a good reason at the time. And preparing for the busy march to the end of 2017 seems like another good reason … at least to remind myself that even though the year did not turn out the way I’d hoped, sometimes, you walk away with a good memory or two of events that did go your way. Like the start of a new friendship, a gracious client willing to give you a second chance after you make a mistake, or even, a not-so-bad selfie in the courtyard of the Louvre, celebrating this capricious year this way feels like a fitting end.
